Voice in Silence
Every Sunday • 9:15 – 9:45 am
Want a little quiet time before church (or even instead of it)?
Meet others on the labyrinth in our Peace Garden for inspiration, contemplation, and meditation. Participants comment that they find the quiet nurturing, rejuvenating and filled with compassionate energy.
During this time of the pandemic, we meet outside, rain or shine. We listen to an inspirational reading, then sit in silence for 15 minutes.
Dress warmly; bring blankets, rain gear, umbrella, and your own chair, or come early to bring a chair outside from the Rainbow Room.
All are welcome.

Dances of Universal Peace are meditative, spiritual practices using the mantras of all world religions — including Sufi, Hebrew, Buddhist, Native, and Christian — to promote peace.
Come open yourself to the Silence with gentle body movements. No experience is necessary. The dances are simple and are taught each time.

Bible Study Classes with the Pastor

Did you know:
- There are two creation stories in the Bible?
- A woman was the first to name God in the Bible?
- Who wrote the Bible? When was it written? Why was it written?
- Who chose the books of the Bible? Why were some books left out? Do they have anything useful to offer to us today?
- Scripture has been modified over the centuries since the Bible was assembled?
- Jesus had brothers and sisters?
- Paul had placed women as well as men in charge of churches?
- Do we have to read the Bible literally or can read it as metaphor?
These are just a few of the items we cover and learn in our Bible studies here at Suquamish UCC.
Our Bible studies are opportunities to explore the culture, time, and life events of the people and authors who wrote the 66 books in what we call the Bible. Classes last an hour and we explore one chapter at a time. Comparing different translations, interpretations, possible meanings, and experiences of the text that we are studying. In the study of the Bible we look at what the possible original meaning/s might be and we openly discuss all questions and statements the people bring to the conversation.
We also include Christian Gnostic writings in our study and conversation such as The Gospels of Thomas, Mary and Judas Iscariot.
These classes are meant to combine critical thinking, spiritual growth, and community building. They are open to all who are curious and want to explore the Bible. We encourage people to bring the version of the Bible they enjoy reading.
